Customs & Mending FAQ
Why are Lazy Jane Originals mostly made to order?
While some originals will occasionally make their way on the site ready to purchase, we mainly stick to made to order so we can entirely construct the garment around your needs and desires!
This gives us the ability to make our garments to anyones measurements as opposed to a limited size range that are often just not giving.
Additionally, all of our garments are made with vintage materials, meaning this gives you the opportunity to throw some color/pattern ideas on the table so we can work one on one to pick your fabric and finishes.
It may take longer than ready-made clothing, but what you get in the end is a garment tailored both to your form and your personality.
What pieces are available to be made?
If you navigate to the Customs & Mending page, you can scroll through a gallery of original pieces we've made! Unless otherwise marked you can select anything from there and reach out to get started!
As for the textiles, we cant guarantee that the fabric shown on a sample piece in the gallery will still be available for yours. That being said, we are constantly sourcing gorgeous vintage textiles and were confident we'll have something to fit the vibe you're after.
What measurements do I send for customs, and how do I take them?
After reaching out to commission a custom piece, we will let you know what measurements we need from you to get started!
As for how to take them, it can take some getting used to but overall is fairly simple! You'll just need a a flexible measuring tape in inches and potentially a friend depending on the spot being measured. Here is a video showing how to do it step by step.
Also, if seeing or sending your body's measurements makes you uncomfortable, please reach out to us. We are more than happy to send you a shipping label so you can use string to mark the length of each measurement rather than a measuring tape. We love you!
What sizes are you able to accomadate?
We opt for made to order custom garments because we want our brand to be an option for anybody and everybody who is interested in a piece from us.
P.S.
When I founded Lazy Jane, I wanted to offer a selection that affirmed the reality that clothing should be made to fit and serve our bodies, never the other way around. As someone who has struggled both with disordered eating, and with watching women I loved leaving retail stores feeling deflated, I want to state this outright:
- We will never change our pricing depending on size
- We will always work with you to make any necessary adjustments to pieces for your comfort/ preference
- We love you and think the idea of needing to be the "right" size or shape to wear a piece of clothing is bullshit <3
Is there anything you can't repair?
No- I literally wield the ability to split atoms and move mountains with a needle and thread, how dare you ask a question like that...
Jk yes there totally is! Over the years that I've worked in mending vintage clothing, I have seen it all, (and fixed most of it!) That being said, there are some pieces that I consider too far gone based off of the extent of the damage and the material's ability to handle repair.
If you reach out to request mending on a well loved piece from your closet, please send me images of the damage and we can go from there. There is almost always something to be done, so don't hesitate to ask!
